Albert Butz was an American inventor and businessman born in Switzerland. He started the Butz Thermo-electric Regulator Company in 1885.

Butz left the company in 1888 following a disagreement with his investors. The patents were handed to the law firm Paul, Sanford, and Merwin, who renamed the company the Consolidated Temperature Controlling Company.

CTCC battled with debt throughout the years and the firm changed names multiple times.

Their present name, Honeywell International, is the result of a 1999 merger of Honeywell Inc. and AlliedSignal. Their headquarters were combined with those of AlliedSignal in Morristown, New Jersey; however, the combined business selected the name “Honeywell” because of the significant brand familiarity.
